A rare interview with the exceptional Norwegian saxophonist Jan Garbarek. This was recorded in my first Oslo studio, in 1990. I wasn't confident enough to interview Jan in Norwegian and asked a friend to help out. Music journalist Tor Hammerø agreed - and I am eternally grateful!
Jan brought to the studio some of the records that influenced him along the way - including his precious version of Coltrane's "Countdown" which Jan bought as a 14 year old.
Jan had just released "I Took Up The Runes" for ECM.
